A comedian does funny things. A good comedian does things funny.”

- Buster Keaton

What makes you laugh? And why?

Out of Balanz invites you to explore the dynamics of physical comedy as we work

together to discover and dissect the mechanisms that trigger laughter.

Our gestures, our expressions and our behavior all embody comic potential. Using games, exercises and improvisations, we’ll delve into the exhilarating territory of laughter and investigate: clumsiness, mis-timing, surprises, accidents and our individual idiosyncrasies.

Supplied with little else then the body that each participant has inherited, this workshop will exploit each participant's unique way of experiencing the world as we endeavor to uncover the life-affirming absurdity of the human condition - and what makes us laugh out loud about it.

This workshop is infused with a whole lot of fun and just as much insight. Our approach - drawing from European traditions including the work of Jacques Lecoq and others -will be one of inquiry and will be grounded in physicality.

All professionals and students studying theatre/performance, as well as the curious and the brave who want to jump in and join us, are welcome. Everyone participating should wear clothes that they can move comfortably and freely in.
